Archive for August, 2011

Hey everyone! Page one of my comic is done! However, I won’t be posting it until I get about ten pages completed. I want to create a back log of pages so I can consistently release a page a week, which will be really hard to do if I release the pages as I finish them. I’m really enjoying the process and I think I have a interesting story building. The panel above is the first panel of page one. This particular story is called “Come Hell Or High Water”.

Thanks for looking and please stay tuned!

Jess surprised me with a gem today. She pre-ordered a copy of Maurice Sendak’s new book “Bumble-Ardy”. His first book in 30 years, which he authored and illustrated. Set to be released on September 6, 2011, the book screams classic Sendak with amazing art and instant classic lines such as, “To scat, get lost, vamoose, just scram! Or else I’ll slice you into ham.” As always he skillfully walks the tight rope between a beautiful kids story and a dark nightmare. Mr. Sendak first created Bumble-Ardy back in 1971 as a short for Sesame Street which Jim Henson produced. Mr. Sendak told The Wall Street Journal that he brought “Bumble-Ardy back because, “He was funny. He was robust. He was sly. He was a sneak. He was all the things I like.” Bumble-Ardy was a human boy in the original story. When asked why he changed his main character into a pig, Mr. Sendak said, “boys tend, generally speaking, to be pigs.” I guess we can’t argue with the man on that fact.

Check out the original Bumble-Ardy story below.

Enjoy!

The final for Oliver Octo. Don’t be deceived by his looks. I think he’ll be a pretty silly character looking for love in the worst ways possible.

Laterz,

The first of many villains in my “Big Empty” story I’m working on. I’m not sure how I’m going to approach this story yet. I might do a page a “week” (I use that word loosely) and post them here. I’ll see how that works out.

Enjoy!

POWERFUL IMPACT! BOOM, FROM A CANNON!

Available world WIDE! James and Karla Murray have released a book featuring images of original one of kind walls from Gawker Artists famed Summer 2009 exhibition, MOM & POPISM. Presented by Gawker Artists and curated by Billi Kid, MOM & POPISM reinterpreted the images from Murray’s book “Store Front: The Disappearing Face of New York” in nearly life-sized prints that were mounted on wooden walls on the roof top of Gawker offices and then painted by several prominent street and graffiti artist. I’m super HYPED to be featured on the cover with Shiro and the legendary Lady Pink.

The book documents the completed artwork and includes interviews, bio’s  and small peeks at the works in progress. I remember when we first started the installation process on a scolding hot day in August 2009 which was then followed by a day of torrential down pours. It was an exciting experience from the jump.

A unique feature of this book is that the reader can cut it up and re-create the Gawker Roof Top on a smaller scale! This makes for a excellent display pieces!
