Looking into the windows of a train while they pass each other like speeding bullets within a tunnel is like watching a film reel rolling quickly through a disturbing scene of a horror movie. I’ve personally seen, read about and heard stories of patrons engaging in sexual acts, the mentally insane running around train cars naked screaming at the top of their lungs, the desperate mugging the privileged, the homeless begging for a dime, mothers in tears holding their crying babies and so on.
Of course those are the more extreme scenarios. A more common occurrence maybe the fact that we’re treated like cattle on a daily basis. Shoved into narrow metal boxes, doors closing behind us, locking us into an ocean of stress fueled regular folk each capable of cracking at the seams at any given moment due to the invasion of personal space and rude behavior.
Some how, this is what everyday commuting has become. However, some of us are desensitized to it all, which is even more disturbing, but I understand why we are. We have to be, to continue to do it everyday. It’s just a sad truth and this piece, which I’m calling, “Uptown Express”, is my reaction to it.
Thanks for looking.
Good travels my friends.
